"I've Seen Fire and I've Seen Rain".......

........."I've seen rain. I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end.
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend,
but I always thought that I'd see you baby, one more time again"

So I open the engine room compartment in Camelot. I have a laundry list of stuff to do on her. I need to install new lights in the engine room.....way overdue of course. The first thing I notice it the drip pan is full of diesel. Not good considering Capt. Marlay just cleaned that out and had it spiffy clean. And I had just helped the Captain bring the boat around to the fuel docks and fill the diesel tanks just three days earlier. Something was just not right. Almost instantly I spotted a drip off of a fuel line. Cool. This makes life easy. So I start tracing it back. So I take the cloth and wipe the line off in one direction. No difference. So I wipe the line off in the other direction. Big difference in the drip. Now I know it is coming from that direction. Then I say, hell yeah, it is just a loose nut.....NOT! Now I'm really scratching my head. Then I see a large amount of shinny liquid right in the bend of this metal line but not past it at the nut. What the fuck is up with that? So I wipe some more at that spot and instantly it is wet again. Holy Fuck!!! NO WAY. Yes Way. Their is a little hair line crack in the metal line. So it has a steady drip, but if I touch it the flow instantly multiplies to triple flow. So I have found the leak. The whole design of the line is fucked if your a sailor. Because you have to crawl around in that engine compartment. You lean on stuff, you crawl on stuff and under stuff in the engine compartment. You literally live and breath in that engine room. You become intimately familiar with all that is in there. So at some point maybe someone leaned on it......? Maybe it was just old....? Maybe I just walked on the boat at the right time? :) I vote yes for the later. Fire avoided? Maybe. Fire possible.....? Maybe. Mess possible......yep.
So the Captain comes down to the boat. And asks, with the faulty line in hand "where is the leak?" And I show him.

FIRE.

The Mercruiser, Alpha One, 350 Magnum is a unique beast on its own. This particular engine and tranny has a little switch that actually cuts power to the ignition each time you shift forward or reverse just for a split second. You don't even see it or hear it happen. It is that fast. It allows pressure on the "dogs" to lessen just long enough for a smooth shift in the gears. Yes, this was the project when it started RAINING.
Capt. Gary had it rain on his parade today. If you have never been inside a boat when shit hit the fans then you will never understand. But those that have dreamed about the "shit hitting the fan", well the shit hit the fan today. The Marisa sprung a leak just about the time that I was deep into the Mercruiser. The emergency diver was called in and lots of epoxy. Finally the leak subsided. Oh, I missed a part.....where I had to crawl down into the bilge and play in the water. Yep, you can figure that part out.
RAIN
